Pro Blackout Hockey Sticks have always been somewhat of a mystery to me and maybe for you as well. Iām specifically talking about the Pro Blackoutās from HockeyStickMan.com.
What are they???
To help unveil the mystery of the Pro Blackout Hockey Stick, I thought Iād just buy one. And thatās what I did! In this blog, Iāll share my experienceā¦the order process, getting it on my doorstep, the unboxing, results after testing it on the ice and finally some nitty gritty details about the stick!
ORDER & DELIVERY: I placed my order with HockeyStickMan early on Thurs Nov 24th, 2022 ā which was Thanksgiving in America! My stick was shipped-out same day via UPS from Belleville, Ontario, Canada (which is just North of New York in the US of A).
I received my Pro Blackout early morning Monday November 28th in mid-state Illinois, which was much faster than I expected!
UNBOXING: As you can see it actually came in a box. The reason I bring this up is sticks Iāve ordered from HockeyStickMan in the past came wrapped in padding & packaging and no box. I havenāt had any issues with shipping damage on anything Iāve received from them. Letās open it up!
So here it is! Just a stick in a box! And, wrapped in plastic! These Pro Blackouts have a black and grey checkerboard pattern on emā. I think it looks pretty cool myself!
There are a few markings on the stickā¦the blade pattern (P92) and stick flex of 95 on one end, and on the other side, hockeystickman.com and no warranty. Iāll mention something about the warranty in a bit.
RESULTS: Alrightā¦so, I tested the stick out in a hockey game on Tuesday Nov 29th and must say, this is a fantastic twig!
I was very happy with the performance of the stick. Itās extremely light, has a great feel to it and comparable to top-end sticks Iāve used in the past. And, I actually did score a goal and a few assists which isnāt too shabby for a defenseman like me! Letās dig into some details on the Pro Blackoutā¦
DETAILS: First of all, Pro Blackouts sticks are an exclusive product of HockeyStickMan.com. HockeyStickMan is the Home of the Pro Blackout!
Pro Blackout sticks come in Senior, Intermediate, and Junior sizes, but Iāll focus on the Senior Sticks. HockeyStickMan offers the Pro Blackout Extra Lite for $130, the Pro Blackout āCustomā Extra Lite for $140, and Standard Pro Blackout for $110.
I purchased the Extra Lite. Thereās info on what the sticks are made of on the webpageā¦comparable to top-end sticks.
As far as weight, the Extra Lite sticks are approximately 400 grams which is Uber Liteā¦to put this in perspective, I looked up common items that weigh about 400 grams on WeightofStuff.com, yep, thatās a real thing, and, the website listed two adult hamsters as weighing approximately 400 grams!
The sticks are offered with a nice variety of curves, and a soft touch grip finish.
The website does indicate thereās NO Warranty on the stick but to let them know if it breaks quickly. So, sounds like they wonāt leave you dissatisfied with a quick break!
Another thing about the Extra Lite sticks is they have a low kick-point. This is where the stick is designed to flex the most. I wonāt go into details about kick points in this video, but a call to HockeyStickMan can help answer any detailed questions you may have.
And lastly, I asked HockeyStickMan what name brand stick the Extra Lites are most comparable to and was told a close match would be the Bauer Vapor 1X Lite for kick-point, weight, and material.
Let’s take a look at the Pro Blackout āCustomā Extra Lite sticks.
So, these are nearly identical to the Extra Lite sticks āspec-wiseā, with the primary difference being 13 custom curves similar to what pro players useā¦which is really cool!
And, they come with different grip finish texture options. As well as, a metallic silver underside for a little razzle dazzle. Hereās the underside:
There are more details about the Custom curves on the webpage here which has some really interesting animations and descriptions. And, on that page, there are further links to spec checks. Lots of cool stuff here.
Lastly, letās check out the Standard Pro Blackout Hockey Stick.
This stick is the least expensive senior Pro Blackout stick at $110 and an amazing value!
The standard pro blackout is about 20 grams heavier than the lite sticks, so approximately 420 grams total. Again, going with my small rodent theme, thatād be like taping a mouse to the lite stick. But, please donāt try this at home!
And, similar to the lite sticks these are offered with a nice variety of curves, and soft touch grip finish. No warranty on these, but let emā know if it breaks quickly.
The Standard Pro Blackouts have a hybrid kick-point ā meaning the stick will flex where your lower hand is when shooting.
These sticks are most comparable to the Bauer Nexus 2N Pro for kick-point, weight, and material.
Overall, these sticks are an incredible value for such a high-end new stick at a low price point. It may not look as pretty as some other sticks, and potentially not suit all player types and shooting styles, but I encourage you to check them out.
Youāll see there are tons of options for right & left shooters, blade patterns, and shooting styles.
Give HockeyStickMan a call to help you determine what stick is best for you. They know their stuff! They have Pro Blackout goalie sticks, gloves, and skates as well.
If youāre a first-time buyer, you may be able to take advantage of a $10 off coupon.
And, if you’re not aware, they also offer excellent professional refurbished hockey sticks that may be good options if you’re looking for a great hockey stick on a budget. Click here to check-out my blog on refurbished hockey sticks!
I hope this has helped unveil the mystery of Pro Blackout hockey sticks for you as it has for me.
