Hello! This is the Beer League Hockey Guy with my first post and thought I’d quickly explain what beer league hockey is where I come from – and that’s mid-state Illinois in the USA!
So, beer league hockey is not about getting crazy and drinking a lot of beer before hockey games and then trying to play…although, I have played with players who had a ritual of doing pre-game Malort shots. Not for me though!
Beer League Hockey where I come from is adult recreational hockey at our local hockey rink. And that’s typically weekly formal leagues or private skates with a group of buddies. I do both.
So, where does the beer come in? Typically, “after” games, we’ll have some ice-cold beer in the locker room. Beer tastes amazing right after hockey – even bad beer! Some players also traditionally head to the local bars after games for a few cold ones…especially on Fridays!
And that’s it! We’re not pros, but love hockey, beer and having fun! It’s that simple!!
